Dear Parents,
This website is intended to support communication between your home and our classroom. Along the top of this page you will find "tabs" that contain information and resources for various content areas, special projects, or other items that our class would like to share. I post websites that our class is currently using for research, extra practice, or special interest topics under the website tab.

About Mrs. Paxton
My family
I currently teach 4th grade in Armada, a district filled with the nicest kids in the state of Michigan! Over the seventeen years spent teaching in Armada I have taught third, fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth grades along with Integrated Technology. I have attended school at Albion College, Wayne State University, Oakland University, Central Michigan University, Marygrove College, Saginaw Valley State University, Michigan Tech, and enjoy taking classes and learning new things. My degrees are a B.A. in Psychology, a teaching certificate with teaching majors in Math and Social Studies, a Masters in Teaching, and an Ed. Specialist degree at Oakland. I adore my students and teaching! I particularly love teaching math!
Above is a picture of my family. Jacob, my 28 year old son, graduated from Michigan Tech with a degree chemical engineering. My daughter Josie (center in the striped tank) is earned a degree from Oakland University and works as a Registered Nurse. Lilly (blue t-shirt) attended Armada schools for two years and currently is taking courses at OCC. Ana (second from the right) is our exchange student from Colombia and Yaffa (far right) is our exchange student from Palestine. Odai (Yaffa's older brother not pictured) was our first year long exchange student and now works as a doctor in Israel. Over the years we have hosted children from Italy, Japan, Honduras, Denmark, Germany, Colombia, and Israel. I am very grateful that technology like Skype allows me to keep in touch with my borrowed sons and daughters! My husband taught for 20 years also, but now works for an automotive supplier.
I have a wide array of interests. Some of my favorite activities to do are going camping and backpacking with the family, vacation by the ocean, visit historical sites, and attend my children's events. I am prone to getting my interest piqued in a new topic and learning a lot about it in a short time, then moving on to something else that captured my interest. On Sundays during football season I most always watch the Lions and had season tickets for exactly one season- the record breaking season of most losses in NFL history! My husband and I also like to try to figure out how to cook various ethnic foods together, particularly from the cultures of our exchange students. I try to make socially conscience choices like purchasing products that benefit the environment, promote fair trade, and support other worthy causes. Additionally, I also support economic development around the world by making micro loans with an organization called Kiva that specializes in providing loans to men, women, families, and villages that otherwise would not have access to capital to start or promote a business. I believe that small acts of kindness add up to making big differences!
